Yoga.

Steady, and at ease.

Sthira sukham asanam. Steady, and at ease. The line from Yoga Sutra 2.46 that gives this app its name. It's the standard the practice has to meet on every mat we put down.

What it is.

Quiet flows and slow holds. Less about the pose, more about the attention. v1.0 ships twelve Hatha sessions plus a Chair Yoga track for older bodies and post-injury practice.

v1.1 adds Browse-by-Style: Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin and Restorative as four named lanes, plus a Training Path ladder that walks new students from chair through to standing-flow over six weeks.

"Sthira sukham asanam." A practice should be two things at once: steady, and at ease. Not harder. Not longer. Just honest about what the body is asking for today.

— Yoga Sutra 2.46

Why this practice.

Yoga is the oldest movement practice in the world, and most of what's marketed as yoga right now isn't it. We strip out the loudness — the hot rooms, the influencer voiceovers, the studio competitiveness — and keep the steadiness.

  • ~ 2,200 yrs

Since the asana sutras were written. We're aiming at the practice that has lasted, not the one trending this week.

Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Sutra 2.46–2.48.

  • 12 sessions

Hatha at v1.0, plus a dedicated Chair Yoga track. v1.1 opens Vinyasa, Yin and Restorative as four named lanes.

  • No heat

No hot rooms, no influencer voiceovers, no competitive studio cues. Steadiness is the metric.

Sthira Me content rules, Brand 3.3 §4.

Who it suits.

The mat is for adults and midlife in particular — and for anyone who's been put off yoga by competitive studio culture or hot-room theatre. The chair lane opens it up further.

  • Midlife

The 35–55 window where attention work pays off most. Hatha-based, slow-paced, mat or chair.

  • Older bodies

Chair Yoga as a first-class practice from launch — full standing flows are not the gate.

  • Studio refugees

Anyone who's quietly given up on yoga because of the noise. We took the noise out.

  • Post-injury

Chair Yoga and Restorative tracks are designed for returning to movement at a kind pace.

What evidence supports it.

Curated against Yoga Sutra 2.46–2.48 (the asana sutras), with modern adaptations referencing Iyengar alignment principles and trauma-informed yoga.

  • Yoga Sutra 2.46–2.48

Every session is built so it can be done sthira and sukha — steady and at ease. If a pose breaks one or the other we drop it for an easier variant.

    Patanjali, asana sutras.

  • Iyengar alignment

Cues lean on Iyengar's alignment principles for safe foundation, with Sthira Me Exercise Library §18A–§18B defining progression order.

Iyengar, Light on Yoga; Sthira Me library.

  • Trauma-informed practice

Voice cues and pose framing follow Emerson & Hopper's trauma-informed yoga approach — choices, not commands; invitation, not instruction.

  • Older-adult outcomes

We don't claim yoga cures conditions. What's well-evidenced: regular gentle yoga improves balance, mobility, anxiety markers and sleep onset, particularly in older adults.

A quiet practice, on a mat or in a chair.
