Why I Called It Sthira
Sthira is Sanskrit. It means steady, firm, grounded, present. It appears in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras — a text written roughly eighteen hundred years ago — in a line that describes what a posture should feel like:
Steady, and at ease.
Not harder. Not longer. Not more. Steady, and at ease.
I found that phrase five years ago, at the bottom of a particularly bad week. I was forty-something, desk-bound, and quietly defeated by a decade of apps that wanted me to crush it at 6am. My body never wanted crushing. It wanted a little, every day, kindly done.
Sthira sukham asanam is eighteen hundred years old and it still reads like the antidote to everything fitness tech has become. Push. Crush. Close the rings. Extend the streak. Don't break the chain.
